How many times have you told yourself that you will start waking up early? If you are anything like me …a zillionth times.
Hi, I am a Software Engineer facing modern life’s biggest challenge: How to wake up early?
Short answer: You CANNOT!
Instead I realized, I was fighting the wrong fight. Every morning, the fight between my will-power and my lazy-body. So I changed the game.
Now I just make sure to lie down on my bed at night “on-time”. Trust me it’s not that hard.
Here is what I did
- Calculated my number of hours of sleep that my body requires = 9 hours.
- Decided what time I want to start waking up in T + 10 days = 8 am
- Time to lie down on the bed = 11 pm ⏰
Obviously, the last step is not easy. No engineer has ever slept at 11 pm.
Here are my 3 biggest cheat-codes:
- I auto-lock my phone at 10:30 using the app YourHour (Screen Time in IOS). Password is with my wife. 🔐
- Before going to bed, I keep my phone in another room. This is super important. Don’t underestimate this.
- Lastly, I play Positive Manifestation Music @ 528Hz to help focussing my mind. 🎶
Certainly, you will not get sleep first couple of days, with a lot of tossing & turning in the bed. But no access to phone & above mentioned music will help. Objective is to change our body’s circadian rhythm. Just trust the process and keep yourself in bed.
My Results:
On bed | Slept at | Woke up at | |
Day 1 | 10:30 | 2:00 am | 11:00 am |
Day 2 | 11:00 | 2:30 am | 11:00 am |
Day 3 | 11:00 | 1:00 am | 11:15 am |
Day 4 | 11:00 | 1:30 am | 10:00 am |
Day 5 | 11:00 | 12:00 am | 10:00 am |
Day 6 | 11:00 | 11:30 am | 10:00 am |
Day 7 | 11:00 | 11:30 am | 9:00 am |
Hope you get a good sleep out of this. Would love to know any other methods that have worked for you.
Reading a book/newspaper in paper format, listening to podcasts worked for me. Other than this some meditation in the day, keeps your mind calm and definitely has a relationship with how well you sleep.
Great but
On day 6 and 7 you sleep 22 and half hours and 21 and half hours
How did you track at what time you slept?
